I try the exim command as below and the message as here

host10:/var/spool/exim# /usr/sbin/exim -bh 58.185.199.254

Hi Jeff,
When I on the server, I can ping it. Here is the result.

host11:/home/admin121# ping mail.sck.com.sg
PING mail.sck.com.sg (58.185.199.254) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from mail.sck.com.sg (58.185.199.254): icmp_seq=1 ttl=246 time=19.3 ms
64 bytes from mail.sck.com.sg (58.185.199.254): icmp_seq=2 ttl=246 time=18.6 ms

But with I used telnet from my server to there it just show as below:
# telnet mail.sck.com.sg 25
Trying 58.185.199.254...
Connected to mail.sck.com.sg.
Escape character is '^]'.

Finally, hope to hear from you soon. Thanks.

This is NS/DNS issue and not Exim. Make sure your Nameservers, with your registrar and server, are configured properly. Run a "DNS report" on your server to see where the problem is with your settings: www.dnsreport.com or www.intodns.com

Are you sure, Andy; it looks to me from his post that DNS is resolving; am I missing something?

Elaine: here's what I get:
Code:
$ telnet mail.sck.com.sg 25
Trying 58.185.199.254...
Connected to mail.sck.com.sg (58.185.199.254).
Escape character is '^]'.
220 mail.sck.com.sg ESMTP MailEnable Service, Version: 0--3.03 ready at 04/26/08 07:55:24
It appears that you're running something called MailEnable Service on the server at 58.185.199.254.

Hi All
Do u mean is that the other site server dns record got problem or my DA mail server got problem ?

Code:
2008-04-04 16:30:27 1JhhJU-0006OI-Qk => all <system-filter> F=<[email protected]> R=virtual_user T=virtual_localdelivery S=1668
2008-04-04 16:30:27 1JhhJU-0006OI-Qk ** [email protected] F=<[email protected]> R=lookuphost T=remote_smtp: retry time not reached for any host after a long failure period
2008-04-04 16:30:27 1JhhJb-0006OW-Pq <= <> R=1JhhJU-0006OI-Qk U=mail P=local S=2356 T="Mail delivery failed: returning message to sender" from <> for [email protected]

This same problem happened to me in one of my customer servers.
And the problem is NOT about dns or anything else.
Because as you can see from that log. Server gives "after a long failure period" error in the same second after we send the mail.

after some searching, digging and trying I found the cause and the solution :)

Cause: your exim db files are corrupted.
Solution:

go to

/var/spool/exim/db

and delete files: retry , retry.lockfile , wait-remote_smtp, wait-remote_smtp.lockfile

restart exim.

Also you maybe want to delete left over stuff under
/var/spool/exim/input
and
/var/spool/exim/msglog

For a fresh restart :)

Hi
I try the matter, but it seems the same problem. As I told be over the log message as below:

2008-04-04 16:30:27 1JhhJU-0006OI-Qk ** [email protected] F=<[email protected]> R=lookuphost T=remote_smtp: retry time not reached for any host after a long failure period

I really don't know what's wrong, either is this my DA server got problem or that server got problem. When I try to telnet to that server mail.sck.com.sg port 25, it's still no respone.

Anyone here know what's the problem ?

If that server isn't responding, then how do you expect to be able to send mail to it?

That said, today I can telnet to mail.sck.com.sg on port 25, so perhaps you've got a firewall issue?

Jeff

The mailserver can't get the destination server to accept mail. There should be some information in that server's log.

Jeff

Dear Jeff

For your info, I can ping to mail.sck.com.sg from my server .
Is that is my server problem or the other end of server side got problem ?
Hope to hear from you soon. Thanks.

hi,
I just want to update this issue, I found out our IBM x3550 server with Broadcom NeXtreme II Gb NIC driver having some problem on kernel 2.6.18 version. I just upgrade to newer kernel version 2.6.26.1 to fix this NIC driver issue, it works now where can send the emails to that server.
