hi all, well just woundering how long it takes on average to get a new key when changing ip address, i contacted da with two emails with the upcomming change a couple of days ago, and then requested the change this morning, i havent heard anything on any emails and now the server is down, can anyone give me a guesstimate as how long i will be waiting, kinda setting on pins here <grin>, or is there anyway else i should try to contact da other than emailing support ... is there another way ??? thanks

You sent the letter to support@directadmin.com ?
I usually get a response within the day and at the very latest the 2nd day.
(< 48 hours usually)

hi again, well must be fare to da, the first emails were just questions i needed answered and a headsup that my ip was about to change, i sent the request in this morning, and after 7 hrs. or so i guess i was a little bit antsy as i have never had to wait this long from support groups before, anyway mark took care of it and all is well again in the world.... :D
as a note on the other hand there has been no responce on the email to support yet.....

Just a question, John told me after I announced a lot of IP changes that the server will keep working if you have a lifetime license and have changed the IP address.
This is correct, isn't it ?

I don't think John would lie if he told you that. He is on the team that wrote DA...

The server will continue to work but DA won't work until the new license is installed.

Ok, thank you for clearing that up.
I was under the impression I could actually use my install at that time. Not good...
Migration plan needs DA at some point...
Perhaps I'm too nervious ;)

Maybe we can ask DA to do the following for IP changes (yes I know it's more work on thier side):
Issue a new license for the new IP, update the expiry date for the license on the old IP to expire 1 week after the planned move.
This would solve a lot of frustration and problems whit moving servers to new IP's.

Or make an admin possible to do it his/herself from the client panel in realtime. (checks to make sure stuff like 127.*.*.* or local ranges should be added)
But it would help DA when they grow bigger.
Note btw:
On all my servers DA wouldn't start after the move until I refreshed the license with getLicense.sh in the scripts dir.
However, the licenses were changed before we started, and DA worked perfectly. So it only downloads a new key file once in a while, which means you can use the server for X time on the old IP.
The rest of the server functions worked nicely btw.
However, there's still some stuff I'm going to write John about as 'advised' changes to how IP migrations work in DA.
