i been fighting with trying to learn .htaccess to try and proctect a directory on my server, from what i read i should be able to see /usr/local/apache/bin/htpasswd and a program called htpasswd on their but i cannt find it for the live of me.

then i found that control panel has password protection, I have tryed adding a folder and making it protected with a login name/password.
But when i goto the directory on my server i get this.
You don't have permission to access /mystuff/ on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request

Can i use .htaccess, if so where is the program for passwords htpasswd on my hosting server? And if it isnt there can i get it somewhere?
Any help would be great
Thanks

Check in /usr/bin/ or /usr/local/bin/

I think you would have more luck trying to get DirectAdmin to do it properly since it's much easier.
