Hi,

I'm sure this is a really easy question, but as a new user I cannot figure it out! I've managed to set up my main account to accept FTP uploads for me to upload my web page. Let's just say my web URL is:

www.abcxyz.com

For that main site, the ftp address is:
ftp.abcxyz.com

So, now I want to set up a user ftp site. The description in the site domain user manual says:
Ftp account with the root directory as the users name in the public_html directory

and it gives the example of gary:

This FTP user has access to public_html/username/ only. I
FTP user would only have access to public_html/gary/ or http://www.site-helper.com/gary/.

So, with that as the background, if I wanted to set up a username of gigi, what address do I enter into my FTP program? I've tried:

ftp:abcxyz.com/gigi but it will not let me in. I'm obviously doing something wrong, but I cannot figure out what else to put in as the user name. Can anyone help me?

Thanks so much!

I'm getting confused.

But I think you're confused between the folder and the login user name.

The login user name for an ftp account is usually something such as:

user@example.com

Thanks for your help. My username IS the name of my folder. So, for example, I've set gary@abcxyz.com as my usernname AND named the folder gary. I still cannot ftp to that folder, though. I'm truly stumped!

Thanks for trying though!

Exactly what are you typing into your ftp client?

Okay, I finally have it all figured out! The directions on site-helper really should be updated to make this more clear!

The error I was making was in the address line. (I'm posting this here so other people can read this and know what to do!) I was putting in:

ftp.abcxyz.com/gary (for example)

All I needed, though, was to put in:

ftp.abcxyz.com and my username and password would have told the program what file to go to.

Anyway, that is no where told in the site-helper directions, and it sure would be useful for others in the future :). Or at least for other newbies like me!

Thanks for sticking with me until I got this figured out!
