Hey guys this has just struck me.

What do you guys resolve the reverse lookup to on your mail server ip's as their can be several addresses for forward lookups since it makes mail.usersdomain.com etc.

Currently I have it resolving reverse to the hostname of my server is this the best to use?

thanks

I believe it is, and I've been using it for at least ten years.

This is the best way. If it doesn't resolve to you're server mail could be rejected. A lot of mail servers lookup the mailserver stated in the emails and do a reverse lookup to see if it is who it says it is. This way spam could be downsized a little bit :p

But the reverse lookup on the ip must in most scenario's like these above be the same as wich you're mailserver sends it mail as.
