First off, sorry for what I know is probably an annoying newbie question, but is there a built in option in DA to turn on spam filtering? I've seen discussions about SpamBlocker and SpamAssassin, and I'm just wondering if they're options that are available somewhere in DA?

Thanks,
Jeff

Yes, they are.

I don't believe DA has officially released SpamBlocker, but you can get it and install it yourself if you need it now; see the SpamBlocker thread.

SpamAssassin is installed but not set up; searching the forum will tell you about a script you need to run, and about some lines in exim.conf that have to be uncommented.

Note that SpamBlocker by default does implement SpamAssassin, but you still have to run the script.

Either way you must restart exim after you do the modification/install.

Are these required? Are they usually installed on most servers?

That's entirely up to you.

Personally, I wouldn't host any domains without blocking spam.

Although in the past we've let people use their own Virus handling software if they wanted to filter or block virus-containing email, we've reconsidered our decision, and are going to be offering that as a serverwide option (by domain) soon.

Consider the competitive advantage.

If we advertise that we can block spam and viruses for our users and you don't, who is apt to get the business?

On our "reference server" we block about 10,000 spams daily.
