My web design site is beginning to expand, I want to offer hosting to my clients. I want to be able to modify settings to create different packages, and to change the abilitys of user accounts. This looks like the right kind of thing, but is this the besst way to become a hosting reseler? Will i have the same kind of powers as admins of big hosting companies like FastHosts.co.u. Also is it possible to customize direct admin to work on my own server pages - I.E. login would work on my own login page rather than a direct admin page, and the User CP would be designed by me as well..

Thanks to anyone who can answer these questions.

Hi there,

Any host using directadmin gives you the power to develop your own user-level skin and apply it to your users. Total customization :). External login forms are also possible, for that, search these forums, there is a post that explains how to do it.

And yes, for what you're looking to do, a reseller account is the way to go :).

Good luck!

It says that when I purchase DA, that I become an Admin... What does that mean? What powers do I get for a lifetime package?

If you have your own server (hosted somewhere on a reasonably high-speed line with dedicated IP#s) and buy DirectAdmin you'll be your own hosting company.

You'll have root access to your server and can do anything the big guys can do.

Including hanging yourself.

But unless you have a large clientelle and fully understand unix/linux server administration, I'd highly recommend starting as a reseller or renting a dedicated server with full administration.

You won't be able to do as much as a reseller, but a good vendor will help you set up your own skins, your own login pages, and help you learn all you need to know.

We, and a bunch of others who try to be helpful here, offer the services and packages you need to become a full-fledged webhosting company.

If I purchase DirectAdmin, what do I become? I dont understand it. If i has an "Admin" package would I then be able to see people the ability to resell hosting on their sites?

If you purchase DirectAdmin, you become an admin (aswell as reseller and user) - if you buy a reseller hosting package with DA included you will become a reseller and have user level access also - if you purchase a normal hosting package using DA, you get the user level only.

As an admin you can create resellers, and offer others to become "hosts".

As a reseller you can only offer user packages (cant create another reseller)

How easy is it to create customized User/Reseller CPs and a custom login etc. I want it to look completely official to my website!

If you know basic html, mainly using forms, you will easily be able to do this... example code is here: http://www.directadmin.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=168

You can customise all you want, again its basic knowledge of html... you can use the default skins, 3rd party skins or make your own (or have one custom made) - and of course all existing skins can be modified if you have the source.
