I've been reading a few forums about DirectAdmin and have read from a few that you need to have STATIC ips to use DA, and can't use Dynamic ones?

I understand that nat/routers/etc will not work. I am referring to dynamic ip's that my internet provider will assign to me through DHCP.

Dynamic ips will not work because DirectAdmin uses your ip address in your license to verify that it can run on your server. So after 24 hours when you ip changes DA will check with their servers and fail because the ip address does not match what is in your license resulting in DA shutting down.

So you'll need to get a static ip from your isp which should be $5/mo or less.

Not to mention that your DNS won't work and most people on the Internet will have a lot of problems seeing your sites.

You must have static IP#s for nameservers.

You should have static IP#s for people to be able to see your sites.

While there are some solutions around, most of them fail when considering AOL, MSN, Earthlink, etc., which will probably ignore short TTLs and enforce a minimum time during which your URLs will be pointed to an IP which may no longer be the right one.

DNS isn't a concern for me, as my IPs only change at a minimum of every 4 months.

My main concern was the licensing according to my IP address. That won't work for me.

Thankyou for all of your replies, much appreciated!
