I think he wanted to say that DirectAdmin 1.34 has been released.

I just upgraded from 1.33.7 to 1.34.0. After the upgrade I notice that under the "System Information" where the servers memory is listed, I suddenly have about 2GB less free memory than before - is this a bug? Here is a copy and paste of my current memory listings:

Total Memory 8051868 kB
Free Memory 1164116 kB
Total Swap Memory 2650684 kB
Free Swap Memory 2650608 kB

Notice that the "Free Memory" is just a little over 1GB, before the upgrade I usually had around 2.5 to 3GB Free Memory.

I am running Debian 5 with Apache 2.2.13 and PHP 5.2.11.

Have anybody else this problem after upgrading DirectAdmin?

One thing to note is that if you had 2.5 to 3 GB of Free Memory then that was just wasted money and ram. The memory should be close to 100% used all the time. Otherwise why even have it?

However in the last 2 comments it was not mentioned what the actually physical ram was in each machine. So we have what DA says it is but we have not been told what it really is.

Da is reporting that you have 4.7GB. What does top or free say?

Because you have to start with 0 customers when you first start, hopefully I will fill the server with customers after the time goes! :)

The fact that it shows less free memory means that your server is using it more efficiently. There is a discussion of ram usage on this forum already. Let's not digress. I know I started the digression.

So far neither ditto or urgido have shown us how what DA reports is different from the operating system reports. So at this point we can only assume that DA is reporting it accurately.

Show the output of free or top and then we can compare.

OK. Thank you for the information. I am new to this, and the server is a managed dedicated server at the datacenter. I am trying to learn as I go ... It is reassuring to read that you think it is because the server is using it more efficiently than before.

About showing you what the operating system report regarding to the RAM, I don't know how to get that information. But I have root access to the server, so if you explain the necessary steps to get that information, I can post it here. Also I am familiar with simple use of Putty.

At the moment DA shows that I have even less Free Ram, at the moment I only have about a little over 300 MB, should I be worried? Here is my numbers:

Total Memory 8051868 kB
Free Memory 308268 kB
Total Swap Memory 2650684 kB
Free Swap Memory 2650608 kB

Seems accurate to me. The exact numbers will change from second to second. But all 3 report about the same.

OK. Thank you! Then we know there is no problem with the way DA is reporting this!

But what about the numbers, should I be satisfied with them, or should I be worried?

Thanks again!

I don't find those URLs funny. You don't have to reply.

You said:

I am trying to learn as I go

You learn by doing research. The url was not meant to be funny but to make a point. You can be offended or you can learn from it. If you are offended then you will not learn anything. We are not here to do your research for you.

Those who know a lot here on this forum have learned to use Google or other search engines or even a book or a library.

You asked a question and I gave you the reference material to look at.

So the question you have to ask yourself is do you really want to learn or not? Learning requires research not just asking a question and somebody giving you the answer.

I could have just answered the question you asked:

should I be satisfied with them, or should I be worried?

I could have just said "Be satisfied." That would have answered your question. But I wanted you to know why. If you don't care to know why then you may as well stop thinking that you are learning because you are not.

I remember the first time I received a url like that and I thought it was awesome. I was not offended. I realized the sender was correct in sending it to me. It taught me a lesson that I value. Now I don't wait for hours or days to get an answer from a forum. I Google it and I find the answer in minutes.

Hi,

Same here here too. Are you using debian 4 ? On this server upgrade was allways fine. But this one don`t want to work. I made upgrade on my other server debian 5 and it worked out fine.

What might be the problem? Anybody? Directadmin Support?

Danijel,

Peter Laws

Any insight to this?

Hello,

Try a manual update:
http://help.directadmin.com/item.php?id=29

The update.tar.gz for debian 4 will be:
5260220 bytes.

The md5sum is:
3fbf9afe36215c503ae9b006d5734f8c

Check
/usr/local/directadmin/directadmin v

Has anyone else had the same problem? My first thought is that DA wasn't restarted automatically. A brute for restart can be done as follows (in case the pid file got out of sync):
cd /usr/local/directadmin
killall -9 directadmin
./directadmin d

Failing all of that, send us an email. In general, for fastest response, send us an email about any issues like that. We don't normally roam the forum. Note you can email us links to forum threads too, which would allow us to address it quicker.

John

from ./directadmin v it's v1.34, but from the license page its still 1.33.7

The brute force restart will fix that then.
