How is it done in DA?

http://servername/~user

I think you answered your own question. You should be able to access all users websites through

http://domain.com/~username

and it will show their default domain home page.

Correct me if this was not exactly what you meant ;)

It is, I just wanted to make sure. Sounds crazy, but software like Plesk does not do this without a hack.
