Pdf support in PHP

I would like to install php with pdf support (http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdf-php/). I realize that pph doesn;t install this by default so any suggestions are welcome.

What if I want to add mod_security to apache from here:http://www.modsecurity.org- can I add it to the custom apache script?
