I have problems with apache.
Sometimes apache just hangs, and the webpages are not accessible anymore.
I have to press restart, so apache restarts. After that everything works again.

Are there any files I can check to find out what the problem is, why apache just hangs.

Or is this a know problem ?.

I have done this already.
So any other know problems that might be of use ?

Did you checked your logs to see if there was a segfault or something ?

apache logs are located in /etc/httpd/logs/

Jep I did, nut there are no strange errors or something like that.

when apache hangs, are you seeing any httpd process running on your server ?

ircman

Yeah most of the times there are running 3 or 4 httpd processes.

Anything in /var/log/messages?
Hard drive full? .... oversized logs?

Nope nothing like that. Everything runs ok except Apache.
it hangs at least once a day.

I already changed the max connections etc. to higher numbers. but it makes no difference.

Not too sure. Perhaps update and compile a clean build of apache and php.

I have updated to Apache 1.3.31 and PHP 4.3.6 just now.

I will keep an eye out if apache is now fixed. If not I'le let you know :D

The problem is solved for now.
I have installed the above mentioned.

And again the same problem. Reinstall of apache and php did not do the trick.

Any more suggestions ?

I think the best course of action would to submit a secure support request to support and have them check it out.

Its possibly a hardware problem, like bad ram or something but I think that would make a lot more programs do the same thing like MySQL.

No messages in the logs that give any helpful hints...
What operating system are you running?
What is the average loads on the server?

It cannot be a hardware prob.

In the logs there is nothing.
I'm running on redhat latest version
loads are not higher than 0.04 so that wont be a problem I think.
