i'm sorry what are these files for, mail and mail scan?

is the Standard Version default version in DA?

what exactly can the ExiScan version do?ExiScan support these

MIME ACL that is called for all MIME parts in incoming MIME messages.
Antivirus using 3rd party scanners.
generic command line interface
Sophie / Sophos
Kaspersky's kavdaemon
ClamAV via clamd
MKS AntiVirus
DRWeb AntiVirus
Antispam using SpamAssassin.
Regular expression match against headers, bodies, raw
MIME parts and decoded MIME parts.

do we need to install clamav in order to get it work?

ProWebUK

The exiscan versions are simply there for the many that have recently requested it, and want to remain with the DA rpms.

I've not really looked into it, and the only difference is the exim versions are patched... you dont need clam av or anything like that, no.

If you want to make use of the exiscan patch you will need to configure it yourself, information is on the website at:
http://duncanthrax.net/exiscan-acl/

after install these rpms, do you do other configurations, such as configure SpamAssassin.

thanks, i'm a bit blur here, heh heh. very sorry.

and is this needed in the future?

I have tried to get SpamAssassin worked (and MailScanner as well) before I upgrade my exim, but finally I failed. So I rollbacked my system to use the default one. That's Exim only.

I just upgrade the RPM of exim, and anything got done. :D

i think i finally got some clue here, this is a version update, update exim from 4.24 to 4.32. and if i install the Exiscan patched Version, i will NOT have ClamAV and SpamAssassin installed automatically. Exiscan is to enable exim work with ClamAv and SpamAssassin, fuctioning as anti-spam and anti-virus, correct?

thanks jeffery and ProwebUK.

jeffery

Yes.

if you haven't configure Exim to work with SpamAssassin or MailScanner, it should worth upgrading to the latest version of Exim.

However, if you have followed the how-to to config it using MailScanner, I am not sure upgrading exim will affect it or not.. :)

You've confused me a bit Chris :( .

Are you saying that your exiscan doesn't need ClamAV, or that I won't need to install it because it's already in the patch?

Thanks.

I went through the homepage of Chris provided, it seems that the patch version enables the plugin of ClamAV easily.

It still need Clamd to be installed..,right?

The exiscan patched RPMs are no different to the standard ones besides they were compiled with the exiscan patch, many wanted this but wanted to remain with the DA RPMs rather than leave rpm and start manually compiling.... so it was basically for them.

Theres usage guides on timj.co.uk (linked from the official website) I believe..... besides that I dont really know how to use it.

If you dont know what the exiscan versions are (and dont want to find out) you would be better sticking with the standard versions.

(note: no additional configurations etc are included with the exiscan versions... it is ONLY the patch itself)

Neorder: This is simply an upgrade of the standard exim... you dont need clamav or anything else no matter what version you use, and the how-to you pointed it is not required...

ProWebUK
05-03-2004, 01:06 PM
Will have to wait for John on that one... or any of the FBSD users.... I know nothing about the FBSD package system... the patch should be identical though.. if your compiling from source just use patch < patch

Yeah, I certainly could do that. However, we already have compat-4.0 installed (libdb-4.0.so) installed.

Surely exim isn't dependent on that one specific version of libdb?

ProWebUK
05-06-2004, 09:56 AM
4.0 should also have libdb-3.3.so

http://rpmfind.net//linux/RPM/redhat/taroon/ws/ia64/compat-db-4.0.14-4.i386.html

try:

rpm -q --provides compat-db

with version 4.0 i get:

libdb-3.1.so
libdb-3.2.so
libdb-3.3.so
libdb-4.0.so
libdb.so.3
libdb.so.3(GLIBC_2.0)

Since the update (I updated earlier this evenign) I've seen some tickets floating in that squirrelmail is sending out emails with username@servername instead of username@domainname for the from/reply to lines

Date: Wed, 12 May 2004 23:06:17 -0500 (CDT)
Subject: test
From: inug@www59.genericdns.com

Email sent thru smtp seems ok.

Check your exim.conf, (/etc/exim.conf)

The first page should have a few instances of /etc/virtual/domains and pophosts.

I just noticed that i didnt actually use the DA exim conf, but it should be fine on anything apart from a fresh install.... will make sure I get it fixed asap.

If you do need the DA exim.conf - http://files.directadmin.com/services/exim4.conf

If it still fails you can do a fresh rollback temporarily:

No one has given a 'user experiece' for a working exim 4.24 with MailScanner and ClamAV update so far.
Well, it worked perfectly, i backuped the configs (both of them), did a rpm test install, determined i had to install libsafe dependency :D
After which i installed it. After that was completed a 'server MailScanner restart' did the trick, the new server was instantly working great and MailScanner was still processing all mail :)

whats the difference between the standard and patched version?

RedHat 9
Standard Version

RedHat 9
Exiscan patched Version

do i need both, or just either standard or patched, for use with clamav?

DirectAdmin exim compiles have included exiscan for some time now.

Exim 4.50 RPMs with exiscan compiled in can be found here:

where XXX needs to be replaced by one of these:

1.90

3.0
3.1
3.3
3.4
3
4.0
7.2
7.3
8.0
9.0
9

with the number corresponding to the build for your OS distribution.

Hello,

We've compiled it with:

WITH_CONTENT_SCAN=yes

We didn't compile it with:

WITH_OLD_DEMIME=yes

as it's depreciated:* Enable WITH_OLD_DEMIME by default to preserve backward compatibility with deprecated "demime" ACL condition. For Exim itself, setting WITH_OLD_DEMIME forces WITH_CONTENT_SCAN to be set.If you need demime, then get the src.rpm (http://files.directadmin.com/services/da_exim-4.51-1.src.rpm), and run:rpm -ivh da_exim-4.51-1.src.rpm
cd /usr/src/redhat/SOURCES

then add:
WITH_OLD_DEMIME=yes

to the top of da_exim-Makefile.
Once added, type:cd /usr/src/redhat/SPECS
rpmbuild -bb exim.spec
cd /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386
and then install the rpm from that directory. ;)

If you look in the inside of the .usr/src/redhat/i386 directory there will be a rpm of the lastest version you have just built:

If it is the latest version of exim it will be:

da_exim-4.60-1.i386.rpm

Install that.

Try using the command 'rpm -ivh rpmfilename' to install an rpm file named rpmfilename. I suggest reading the rpm man page to give you a better idea what those switches mean.
