Why is it that the setup script for DA broken when installing on debian
Its like its trying to install on a redhat system

Things fail to install

eg

E: Couldn't find package krb5-libs
adding krb5-devel ...

Cannot find /etc/sysconfig/rhn/up2date... up2date may break things.
*** You have /var partition. The databases, emails and logs will use this partition. *MAKE SURE* its adequately large (6 gig or larger)
Press ctrl-c in the next 3 seconds if you need to stop
All Checks have passed, continuing with install...

cp: target `/etc/rc.d/init.d/' is not a directory: No such file or directory
./install.sh: line 64: /sbin/chkconfig: No such file or directory
./install.sh: line 65: /sbin/chkconfig: No such file or directory

Setting MySQL Root Password...
./mysql.sh: line 31: /usr/bin/mysql: No such file or directory
Setting DirectAdmin user and password...
./mysql.sh: line 52: /usr/bin/mysql: No such file or directory

Note that the MySQL client library is not bundled anymore!

*** There was an error while trying to configure php. Check the configure/ap2/configure.php5 file

./install.sh: line 223: 13344 Segmentation fault ./directadmin i
./install.sh: line 226: 13345 Segmentation fault ./directadmin p

Cannot find /usr/local/bin/php
Please recompile php with custombuild, eg:
cd /usr/local/directadmin/custombuild
./build all d

Also the cron issue where it fails to install, and asks you to install vixie-cron , which is not a package in the debian repositories

I do wonder what else is missing/broken or not installed.

Should these issues not be resolved if its an officially supported operating system.

Make sure that you have a Debian DA license, and not RedHat/CentOS/Fedora.

Make sure that you have a Debian DA license, and not RedHat/CentOS/Fedora.

Its order through a 3rd party, and they say its a debian license

You will need to double check... the installer is downloading the Redhat based files.

No one has the right to sell you a DirectAdmin license except DirectAdmin. You may not have a valid license. You should contact DirectAdmin Sales (http://www.directadmin.com/support.html).

It all depends on what conditions DA have given the company that has the internal licensing account.

Generally the provider can offer you a license to use with there products & services but they will always own it. The provider can charge you a one off fee or monthly etc... or even not at all, but when you cancel there services the license stays with the provider.
