Dear Everyone,

I have the following questions, hope anyone can help me out with.... THX!!! ^_^

1) When a user tries to create a MySQL database through DirectAdmin, does it really create an instance of a new database or it just create a new schema / user?

2) If so, approximately how many databases (which really depending on the number of users) can be created without significantly affecting the performance of a server?

3) If I have a server with P4 2.4Ghz + 512 MB ram, approximately how many databases it can stand (despite the fact that database will use up some of the harddisk space)?

see... I'm really new to DirectAdmin, and I'm very interested in buying it 'coz I'm thinking very seriously in doing Web Hosting business. So hope you guys can help me out. ^_^

Million Thanks to you all!!!

Hello,

1) Yes, it creates a new database and user. The entailes a new file. Will not affect performance if not used.

2/3) That depends on many many variables.

The big ones are, the size of the databases, and the traffic that uses it. If all sites only get 10 hits a day, then by all means, put 1000 databases on your system. If you run the biggest forum on the net, you'll be struggling to run 1 database (eg: webhostingtalk.com).

I think the question is less about "how many database can I have", but more so how much total traffic can the server handle. The resources for 1 busy database and one hundred smaller ones could be the same, so an answer to "how many databases can I run" is all over the road.

I think the average webhost will end up having 5-10 medium large sites (again, depends on traffic) and then they can have hundreds of smaller sites as they don't really affect performance wihtout any traffic. It completely depends on total throughput.

Your server seems fast enough, so you should be fine for most websites your customers can throw at you.

Thanks John!!!

That's great, at least, I know how much I can do with a P4!!!

So now, I need to concentrate on getting a dedicated server, by then, I think I'll approach you as soon as that's done! ^_^

Thanks again!
