I have got a server and I want to install direct admin on it.
What is happening with the currently existing shell users if I install direct admin?

None of your current users should be affected in any way.

Correct, the users themselves won't be affected, but you'll need to add them to the /etc/ssh/sshd_config file as "AllowUsers username" so that they'll still be able to login.
