View Full Version : What Linux Will Best For my Dedicated

helo
i m going to get a low end dedicated ,

it is

P3 1 Ghz , 256 Mb Ram , 2g IDE

i know its low on power , so dont tell me about it

i choosed Direct admin as control panel ,
but i am not much famlier with linux , so what my company is providing me

Cent os 4 / 5

Debian

Fedora 6 /7

Free BSD 5 /6 /7

ubuntu

so can any one tell me whic linux is most ligt weiight and good for my low end server ,
i want to run only a single php based forum on it

I find Cent os 4 / 5 works well for me on my servers.

though I am sure others on here might have other ideas :-D

BSD would be a lot kinder to a box of that low spec. 2GB IDE HDD... You should just go with a shared or VPS solution if all your hosting is a forum.

sory typo mistake it is 20 gb

and i m getting in at less than a 128 mb ram, 5 gb space , vps

Hmm...a minimal install of debian/centos will work fine; debian is known to be less resource consuming.

If using DirectAdmin...

I would use CentOS-4 or CentOS-5. It's the most supported distribution that DirectAdmin runs on. :)

so did i need to just too chose , minimal install of centos or there is any custom minimal builds ?
