Squirrel problem

after a new install I got this error when I try to use squirrel mail:

Exim 4.67 Running
MySQL 5.0.51a
dovecot 1.0.10

yes, if I set the permission to 777 it works, but it´s safe? leave it with 777?

how can I do that in a folder? /tmp in this VPS is not a partition.
