Which one do you think better ? I installed DA last 2 weeks. I installed Dovecot on my DA server. DA is using POP as default, later if i want to use IMAP, can i just change to it ? how to ? thank you.
Peter
I prefer IMAP for my own email, simply because I have a few computers running Mac OS X, Linux and Windows and its nice to have all my email regardless of which computer I am at.
I don't know about any technical reasons why you should choose one over the other, except IMAP will use more disk (obviously)

Most important to remember is if you use imap, then email will never be removed from the server.

But if i just login and remove the mail from the server?

Sure, but your clients may not like it, because generally it will then not show up in their own local email client. Or if it does, then if they switch to another email client, or reinstall their email client it will be gone, and that's the advertised advantage of using IMAP.

I am sure Jeff will correct me but from what I have experienced is that an email box is not pop or imap. Pop and imap are protocols to manage the email. Imap can create folder in which you can move your mail from the email to another folder. But you can use either imap or pop to access the default box that mail is stored in. See sig.

imap login, password and host are the same as pop.
