I have had to restart vm-pop3d twice this morning for my clients to be able to receive email. I looked in /var/log/messages and/or /var/log/maillog but found nothing to alarm me. I must admit, I don't really know what it is that I am looking for in there, but I looked at the file and looked for a time period of when I knew it was working, then one when it wasn't.... looked about the same.

Although the system does start to work after a restart, obviously I can't do this all the time so I was looking for some assistance with this matter.

Hmm.

Perhaps you want to set it up to use xinetd instead of a daemon...
