Imap Pop3 email dump

I have this weird problem.

I have an email account set up to use the pop3 protocol in outlook.

I frequenly check my email via squirrelmail which uses the imap protocol.

After i check after webmail it seems that all of the emails in my inbox get redownloaded. so I have a huge list of emails which i have already viewed and filed away in other folders.

Does anyone know why this is happening?
