Hello
I was talking to mark about this on WHT, what do i mean by the 4th control panel?
Well i was thinking why not make DA better from the rest something diffrent something new, 4th control panel - Super Reseller. This account has the options to make resellers under there account and have more poer then a normal reseller.
This would make a Reseller account 10 times more powerfull and offer hosts like myself would beable to take a big slice of the cake of cpanel hosts.

How do you feel on this suggestion

what more power could a normal reseller want or need? if they want access to anything available to them, they ask the admin, if they need root access they buy a VPS / VDS... but why have 2 resellers?
I was about to post thismornin about adding a 4th level panel though, that is a user control panel, for subdomains and for email users, it would allow subdomain (on a normal users account) to change their redirect settings and possibly make emails?, for the emails it could be creating additional aliases for emails :D

Hello,
Fancy bumping into you here.
Well yeah get what your saying but it will be something new and will take away the big price of VDS to set up etc.
What your on about, the same as ensim yes? this is a good idea and not a that big thing but does add another great option.
Maybe lets go 5 control panel levels. lol!

That would be a GREAT idea. My mum's web host uses DirectAdmin. She has some staff that need access to create/edit/remove email accounts, but nothing more. A 4th CP for this would be great for her and people in her high-heals.

LOL @ 5 levels :p
Root access isnt something that you would really do through a control panel, it involves setting up a server from virtually nothing into partions.
If you want to offer VPS / VDS you will need to do it yourself, if you do all the security work and the partioning of the hard drive im sure Mark / John wont mind you having multiple licenses for the VPS / VDS.
And the 4th level of control panel im referring to would be similar to ensim, yes, although it would not just be email "users" as ensim has, it would be for subdomain setup / configuration also.

I'm sure Mark and John don't care how many licenses you have providing you pay for them :D Wouldn't VMWare be a good program to use for VPS/VDS?

looking at VMWare it looks like it would do the trick ;)

Whcih trick are we talking about? Causing an increase on bank roberies among web hosts? Enable VPS/VDS? Both?

:D :D :D could be both but i think its VDS / VPS i was thinking of ;)

I think it would be awesome to have a Super Reseller level although I think the only extra "power" they have should be the ability to add Resellers under themselves...

Don't let resellers add resellers though. You'll end up with a box hosting 60000000000000000000000000049888888420000000000000000000000000034888888888888888888888888888888894222222222221494489 domains under one 5MB Storage 50MB Bandwidth reseller with a million resellers each with a billion clients on their $1.67/decade unlimited plan :D

No just dont let resellers over sell as simple as that, Prowebuk you are missing the point. And who said anything about root? Im not asking for a VDs etc im just asking for something to put DA out there with a great feature know one else has.

if the owner of a reseller wants another reseller, they purchase another one or they ask the host if they can split their current reseller into 2.
as TAH-MAX said, your server would be flooded, not sure about your opinion after this, although i think allowing resellers to make resellers should NOT be allowed.
i guess when you said im missing the point i guess you mean me referring to getting a VDS if you want that ability?
"Well yeah get what your saying but it will be something new and will take away the big price of VDS to set up etc."
VDS is not a big cost for learning server administration, you can easily get it for $30 a month and as most resellers start at around $15 its not that high of am amount.
If a host wants to sell resellers they should atleast help themselves by having root access for themselves so when apache crashes, or any other software needs starting / stopping / restarting / checking they can do it without waiting for the host to do it for them.

I admit I didn't read this whole thread (only first & second posts) :D
BUT - I think "sub" reseller accounts would be awesome. Resellers creating resellers.
We just need an overselling on/off setting. (If parent reseller account cannot oversell, children resellers obviously can't oversell either). It'd follow like that through sub-sub*-resellers

I don't think resellers should be allowed to create resellers. I mean, think of the daily effort the admin would have to put in checking all the domains for pornn, wearez and anything else thier TOS shizaarz at? :D

Proweb i have already ansered all these points, you are not getting what im saying. Im not saying that this would be the best thing for a host would be the best thing for DA. It will bring something orgional and have a edge over other hosts. And if this feature ever was released maybe Da could make a option to pick the 4th control panel.
+ Flloded server tick overselling off. All sorted that way :)

95% of the people who purchase DA will be using it to host, so having a feature that hosts dont want in my opinion is a silly idea. Also, you did not answer all of those points.

Notice it is for hosts now

Resellers can still make resellers though ;)
Chris
I'm a host and I would like the ability to have a special breed of resellers who can create resellers. I'm not saying all resellers should be able to make resellers but a "super reseller". WHM can do almost the exact same thing...

i say put up a vote if we want this to get anywhere, that way we get real opinions, we just have to get reasons for and against it happening.
If it was done i would not want it myself and would want a way to disable it, its not something i would use or want, lots of hosts are skipping resellers completely due to the amount of work they usually require so i think allowing resellers to make even more resellers would flood the server along with flood the server administrator or support staff for more help!
Do we get any actual reasons to having this 4th level of control panel apart from just in my opinion causing more problems for everyone apart from the owner of the super reseller?

ok proweb i dont wamt to debate on this issue any further.
ctwhost (martin)
I have to agree with him, as long as you can control overselling it would be a great idea, let some resellers create resellers, no root access or anything just in their cp, they could create them
This is obvisly has people on either side of the argument

ChrisYes, but VMWare costs money. Userspace Linux would be a lot better; the newest kernels already support it; you can have multiple kernels running on the same machine; everyone can have their own memory segment, their own drive segment, a completely rebootable Linux, and even their own IP#s on virtual eth0s.
