to view one of my sites? am transferring a live site across servers and dont want to do dns till im sure its ready.

I'm not sure what you mean. This works for the main site for every username.

sorry im wording it badly. I have 6 domains attributed to my username on my ded server.

when I do http://123.123.123.123/~username it shows me the website for the domain name that I have given the server. but then I have 5 other domains under my own username, and i'd like to have a look at one of them before doing any DNS.

You can change the default domain into DirectAdmin :)
