Is postgresql's implementation coming to DA any time soon?

I cant imagine PostGreSQL support being fully included and manageable through the DirectAdmin interface for quite a while, I may be wrong in thinking this although I have not seen any previous mention of it by DirectAdmin nor does there seem to be much demand for it.

I suggest if you want PostGreSQL with an interface now, you use PostGreSQL along with pgpMyAdmin (postgre version of phpMyAdmin)

It shouldnt be too difficult to get that going either.

Yep, that's easy for me to setup, but I'm moving away from Hsphere because I was using too many external applications. In my experience, users need to have everything in one place : the cp.

It must, of course ;), be done the right way. I trust the DA team for that.

As a matter of opinion, I like it better than using 3rd-party tools to keep my server chugging. HOWEVER, to make it even feasible there *has* to be an option to disable the "extra" features, which could include built-in postgresql, automagic software upgrades, or for the pure fun of it, a search engine submission extension. There is always room for more fun!

I agree. Modularity for admins and resellers is a MUST.
We shouldn't have to rely on skins for that because it's too much hassle to upgrade every skin with every release.

Most defintely.

Agreed again, PostGreSQL is required by certain websites.

This is where i 100% *disagree*

Automatic software upgrades are the job of the server administrator and should not be taken into a control panel designed to simplify the creation of hosting accounts, provide software required for websites and an interface for users to control simple options.

Open IE > Type search engine submission > click 'im feeling lucky'* and wallah job done we have officially helped DA remain pointless feature free :D

* - this is based on my current settings, as you can probably tell google is my homepage, you may also not want to do this as in nearly all cases bulk search engine submitters *do not* work.

I think postgresql is a nice new feature, and for DA it shouldn't be so difficult, because it's all a little bit the same as MySQL. Ofcourse they need to work on it and it should be expirimental in the beginning, but still, it would improve DA i think.

But as I can see, DA is also very busy with some other important stuff that they have to do, so my guesses are that it will not be implanted yet.

in my opinion, which is very biased mind you, pgsql would be a waste of time, there are more important features to be added in.

Hello, I wanna ask the Support Team, when aproximately will be added support for PostgreSQL in DA, similar to MySQL support?

I know that this is not a priority, but maybe you guys have an ideea when this database server will be supported by Direct Admin.

Thanks.

See this (http://www.directadmin.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1313&highlight=PostgreSQL) thread.

I was wondering if it is possible to add PostgreSQL in DirectAdmin, allong with phpPgAdmin

Some customers are intrested in this feature, and i'm to!

It is possible, but you have to install and manage it yourself since DirectAdmin doesn't support it ;)
And you won't be able to do any management functions with databases through DirectAdmin unless someone writes a plugin that will integrate some sort of management feature.

In otherwords, you would have to create accounts for users manually, most likely upon request or with some automated system.

Adding it as an option would be attractive

I am looking forward to the day that PostgreSQL is added to DA. Any ideas if this will be done? If so when?

Thanks,
Simon

Bump -- I'd like to see DA manage PostgreSQL as well.

I am pretty sure (and most people do too)
that Postgresql is by far a -technologically- much better database than MySql, however it would be nice to have it supported in our control panels.

However I agree that there may be other priorities.

Maybe I should have a cpanel based reseller account for postgresql requirements and be prepared for migrate them to DA, when required

I'm looking at writing a 3rd party plugin that will support PostgreSQL.

I've got a very early alpha up, though it's no-where near production ready or even beta quality.

I'll keep you posted... ;)

Howdy,

Any change on the status here? Any plugins that anyone knows of?

Thanks

I've begun development on one and should have it out mid December.

As such, now would be a great time to hear feature requests.

I guess it could work in the same sence that mysql does??

I have finished the PostgreSQL installation scripts and need a few people to help test them.

I will need root access to make changes to some Operating System specific commands.

You will receive 75% off your first license in exchange for this part of the testing.

Please e-mail me at support@mark87.com if interested.

Debian

Thanks!

Hi,

I'm running freebsd, however why is root needed?

jmstacey
11-21-2005, 05:09 PM
I need to monitor the scripts as they run and make any necassary adjustments.

The biggest issue at the moment is the various setup of the startup scripts which varies from OS to OS.

It is possible without root access, however making fixes and retesting is extremely cumbersome, unreliable, and slow.

Hey Guys,

We may write a Postgre Plugin to manage Postgre databases, very similar to how DA allows for MySQL management.

Cost aside, would there be interest in purchasing a plugin to do this?
Thanks.
