Hello,
We currently have a leased license for Debian. We are having our server reformatted, and we are installing CentOS instead of Debian. We need to have this done tonight, however DirectAdmin support does not seem to be available today (probably because its sunday). What can we do to get our server online tonight running CentOS? Is there anyway to even get it running with everything except DirectAdmin? Im pretty sure the install script will not even install Apahce with the improper license. Is there anyway to "trick" this script or any possible work around until directadmin support gets back with us?

Your DC should be able to do a base install of CentOS. That would get you ready to install DA on it.

ummm i am the dc lol i had debian on this box and now were going with centos and im worried about the install script fetching the debian install files. Should it auto detect centos ? or will it pull debian from my licsence

I do not know if it would use that info for that or not. Mark and John should be back in action today so you should be able to get an answer from them if you send them an email.

Alright, this morning they switched the license for us. Problem solved.

John is there any reason why users can't change the distro or even regged ip of the license? Can it be abused in some way? Sorry if im being stupid btw.
Thanks,
Grant

Yes, im a bit curious. It would have saved us about 12 hours of downtime if the license wasnt distro specific. The box was using the same IP address, so it obviously couldnt be running two distros at the same time, both with directadmin running. Its not critical, but it would be nice if the license just checked the IP and hostname and client information rather than the distro.

It is probably that way so it knows what version of software to install. However it could easily be pulled with the "uname" command but im not the programmer so who knows why they are doing it the way they are :)
IP and OS specific can prevent DA from being cracked/abuse.
In normal situation not much people change OS on their running Box.
In case of damage they will reinstall the same OS as before.
To reduce downtime it's must be planned before by contact and schedule with DA support what time they should change the OS for your license.
