Goodmorning everyone.

I have a little question..

Can anyone explain to me what the pro's & con's for spamblocker or mailscanner are in the fight against spam?

So in short: which one is preffered?

The short answer is you cannot compare the 2. They use totally different methods of blocking Spam. You can also use either or both as you please, the one does not eliminate the posibility of using the other.

My personal experience is that the mailscanner option slows down the server. Currently I use SpamBlocker and SpamAssassin on my servers.

atm i'm running mailscanner, it does slow down the server, and fine tuning it to catch most spam is quite difficult.

I'll find a good procedure to deinstall mailscanner and install spamblocker again.

My vote to SpamBlocker

Why?

SpamBlocker blocks mail before it reaches your server based on the server/emailaddress it's sent from. After that SpamAssassin has less emails to process helping reduce the CPU load on the server.

MailScanner receives ALL mail and processes all mail causing higher bandwidth and CPU usage.
