Databas and subdomain

I am sure there is a logic reason for this but I am not an expert.
Why is it not possible to install a database on a subdomain?

If you set up a subdomain using DirectAdmin's interface you're setting up a directory within the same domain structure as the main domain. You can set up a database for it, as the user for the main domain.

If you set up a subdomain using DirectAdmin to set it up as a new domain, you get a complete control panel for it.

I have been waiting so long for an answer so I almost gave up. :-)

It is working very well! I am working with a Mambo site and all my family want to do it also. Now I can let them have their Mambo sites using my sub domains.

Well, it did not work. :-)

I only checked if the subdomain showed up in the list, which it did, but I did not try to install.

I tried to istall to the subdomain now and I got the following errors:

An error has occured. Please check Installatron's error_log.
Suppressing additional errors!

And then:
our installation of Mambo is almost complete!

But when contiue the site gives an 404 error. All files is in the folder.

Please advice.

Maybe I should say that I have the same software/database installed on another domain but on the same dedicated server.
Is that a problem?

Seems like you are using Installatron to do the installation and not setting this up yourself. So it seems to me that Installatron is having a problem as the whole process should be pretty well automated I think.

I think you need to talk to your service provider.

Installatron will install Mambo into a domain.

I don't believe it installs into a subdomain.

Yes it does must it need to be a stand alone subdomain. My error was that I first created a subdomain under my main domain, and it did not show in the domain list when trying to install via Installatron. But when I created the same subdomain as a stand alone domain it show up.

BUT, I forgot to delete the first subdomain so even if Installtron installed correctly I had a browser problem as I now had 2 subdomain with the same name.
After discovered that, and deleted the subdomain under the main domain it works just fine.

In DA terminology a domain is installed through the control panel as a domains[/b] while a subdomain is installed through the control panel as a [i]subdomain.

I'm sorry if I wasn't more clear :) .
