Is it on debian still in a testing phase?

Yes.
Debian is currently still classified by beta by DirectAdmin, however DA on Debian has been stable for quite some time.

On December 23rd (yesterday) John sent me an email in which he wrote:
No supported OS's are beta at the moment:
http://www.directadmin.com/install.html.
However the page he pointed me to doesn't list either Debian, CentOS, or FreeBSD 6.x.

Under the circumstances I'm going to ask him to visit this thread and help clarify everything for us.

And perhaps update the install.html page as well.

I have encountered people on WebHostingTalk.com who were surprised to learn that DirectAdmin supported Debain at all.

Yes, install.html should be kept up-to-date.

We've been using Debian Sarge with DA since August now, with almost no problems :).

So perhaps it isn't called stable yet, I tend to think it is :).
