Using File Manager

When I try to login as my main DA account and use the File manager I get the following error:

Unable to open /. Permission denied.
To copy/move files with the clipboard, add the source files to the clipboard with "Add to Clipboard", go to the directory where you wish to copy/move the files, then click "Copy Clipboard Files here" or "Move Clipboard Files here"
Filesystem Tools

I think I may have screwed up permissions somewhere, but I am not sure.

seemed like I chown'd the admin directory to root as well as most of my other users by mistake. I only have one question more:

are /home/ftp and /home/tmp supposed to be owned by root or by admin?
