Hi,
I've got a big hosting package on my server - 15 GB, but when I'm trying to backup the user it stops at 4 GB and starts over again. So making the backup goes on and on and just won't stop. I've stopped it manually (restarting DirectAdmin).
My Question. What do I need to do to backup this user? (is there max limit (GB's) of user backups?)
Thanks in anticipation :)

Hello,
The backups created by a User will fall under his own disk usage. If he's already using most of the space and the backup would push him over the limit, then it won't work.
When a Reseller maks the backup, it's stored elsewhere and doesn't fall under the Users limits.
You can always make the backup in parts such that it fits within your limit. Delete the part after is created, then move on to the next part (eg, domain, mysql, email etc).

I created the backup under reseller level. I'm the Admin of the server :) So that's not the problem...

Is the backup larger than your reseller account?
John, is the reseller backup limited?
What OS distribution are you using? What's the maximum size file allowed by that OS distribution?
Are any of your backup files going over that?

-> Nope, the reseller account is 160 GB, same as admin.

-> Fedora core 3. As far as I know the file size is allowed unlimited.
Thanks for your help :)

Hello,
No, it shouldn't be. DA runs tar, and it's done when it's done. DA sits and waits until that time. When run as a reseller/admin, it's run as root, no limits there.
Do a "ps -ax | grep tar" command to see exactly which tar command is being run when it's hanging.
Might need to try and run the same command by hand to duplicate it for error messages. (/proc/pid#/cmdline will show you the full command if it gets snipped off by the ps command.
Also, where are you backing up to? If via ftp, then check /home/tmp and make sure that /home/tmp/reseller does not exists. If it does, delete it. Same goes for /home/reseller/user_backups/username (directory).
