Is there a general description of what gets updated through the DirectAdmin Update Control Panel and what you have to update yourself?

Just to explain a little better in:
http://www.directadmin.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=943

one post says:

The core directadmin software will update itself when new versions are release, but accompanying software, such as PHP, needs upgraded manually

while the next says :

In most cases, I will issue the update to all the DA servers the day after I release it.

So do you need to update PHP (for example) or wait for the DA update to do it?

Thank you.

For PHP and apache you can use the custom apache build system.

Sorry, my question wasn't very clear. DirectAdmin (the company) installed PHP, SSH, exim, proftpd etc. as stated on http://www.directadmin.com/install.html .

Do these software packages get updated as well when you go from DA 1.196 to 1.200 or is this just the control panel itself being updated?

Thank you.

Hello,

DA doesn't do updates of any services of other that DirectAdmin itself. There are sometimes exceptions like 1.20 includes SquirrelMail, which is installed automatically. But you can assume that DA won't update anything other than itself.

John,

Thanks for the clarification. I have updated most everything with up2date with the exception of the skip list (php and sendmail). I know PHP gets updated with the Apache custom build system, but what happens with sendmail?

Thanks again.

Hello,

We use exim , which you'd update with the instructions in the updates section (if one is needed and/or you want to).
